Fabric as Skin

$40.00

Frea Norman’s Fabric as Skin is a project made in collaboration with young people living in Naarm/Melbourne. Initially inspired by their distrust of the fashion industry, Frea guided discussions about intimate connection to clothing. From physical comfort, to family experience, each person shared something different from themselves, that directly impacts their sense of dress. These conversations guided the creation of images, and resulted in a collection of vignettes on dress and the self.

The series, Fabric as Skin, is a personal exploration of clothing and how that is intertwined with our day to day lives. The interviews included share a candid look at the way young people think about their dress.

This project has manifested in a spiral bound magazine filled with interviews and imagery created in collaboration with four subjects.
